Corps of Engineers:-
This is one among the Indian Army’s oldest organizations. Border Roads Organization, Military Engineering Service (MES) and Combat Engineers are its three divisions. Bombay, Bengal, and Madras Sappers are the three types of Combat Engineers. Sappers are combat-trained engineers with an engineering background. The term “sappers” is derived from the technical term “sapping,” which relates to hole construction on the battlefield.
Border Roads Organization:-
The unit is in charge of constructing roads in inaccessible places that are also country borders, such as the Himalayan highlands, Thar Desert, and North Eastern terrain, as the name implies. They’re also responsible for supporting troops stationed in difficult-to-reach locations with their moves. The construction projects of the Border Roads Organization have made a substantial contribution to the economic growth of these areas.
Military Engineering Services (MES):-
MES is regarded as one of the country’s largest construction firms. It is the defense ministry’s principal engineering branch, supporting the army, navy, and airforce. The army’s MES engineers are in charge of the construction and maintenance of buildings, dock installations, military roads, furniture, and other items. They also assist in the construction of the country’s national roadways.
Combat Engineers:-
Combat engineers’ main responsibility is to facilitate the movement of the Indian Army both in times of war and peace. These engineers build roads, helipads, airfields, minefields, bridges, and other structures on the fronts. In armed warfare, combat engineers are also trained, and they engage the enemy alongside the troops.

To pursue your degree in the field of Military Engineering, you must have a PCM combination in Class 12th. You must also pass JEE and have a degree in Civil or Mechanical Stream. To be part of this you must apply through Technical Entry such as TES (Technical Entry Scheme) & TGC (Technical Graduate Course), SSC (Tech)- Short Service Commission is another option.
What are Signal Corps and how to make a career in it?
The Corps of Signals of the Indian Army is a combat-supporting force. It provides total communication and cybersecurity to the three forces — army, navy, and airforce — both in conflict and in peacetime.
Their main goal is to establish a comprehensive system communication strategy between headquarters and field soldiers. They also contribute to the army’s intelligence network, which helps the army.
The Corps of Signals is known as the army’s nerves because the troops receive information from the foreman of signals or information warriors, and the intelligence is arranged into an action plan at the headquarters by experienced officers. The Corps of Signals plays an important part in modern warfare.
You must have a PCM combination in class XII to join the Indian Army’s Corps of Signals. You must also have a BE/BTech degree in electronics or computer science engineering and have passed the JEE. Both men and women can pursue the TES, TGC, and SSC (Tech) programme.
To pursue career in Army Medical Corps:-
The Indian Army Medical Corps is a professional organisation that provides medical care to all army personnel and their families. You can join the corps as a commissioned officer after graduation and ascend through the ranks. You can apply for both a short service commission and a permanent appointment as a medical officer.
You must pick PCB in Class XII and pass the NEET test to join AMC. Because of the reservation principle, completing your medical studies at Armed Forces Medical College in Pune gives you a better chance of receiving a permanent commission.
A PC is given to around half of the graduates, and an SSC is given to the other half. In the SSC route, you must serve for a minimum of 7 years, which can be extended for another 7 years. The total period will be 14 years after the extensions. By following the same procedure, graduates of civil medical institutes accredited by the Medical Council of India (MCI) can become commissioned officers. The highest age limit is 45.
To pursue career in Dental Corps:-
The Indian Army Dental Corps is a specialist unit that provides dental care to all Indian Army troops, including veterans and their families. You can apply to join these corps as a dental officer.
The requirements for joining the ADC are similar to those for the medical corps. A BDS/MDS from an army dentistry college or a DCI-approved university is required. You must also complete a DCI-approved internship year and obtain a dental certificate.
The SSC is a 5-year commitment that allows you to join the corps. For a total of 14 years, it can be extended for another 5 years, followed by another 4 years. After two years on the SSC, you can apply for a permanent commission.
To pursue career as Veterinary Corps:-
It is one of the Indian Army’s oldest units, responsible for breeding, rearing, and training all of the army’s animals.
Only male applicants can apply through SSC after completing a BVSc/AH degree from any accredited Indian university or an equivalent international degree. If you pass the interview, you will be promoted to captain. You can get training at the RVC Centre & College in Meerut. Your contract could last up to ten years in total.
