Many parents struggle to place their children in good schools that can cater to their academic needs. For those parents who wish not to send their children away to school, there is a solution – The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has made available free textbooks and learning materials for grades ix-x in India. You can download these free educational books from the NCERT website.
However, you will often be required to obtain a key by filling out an online form before downloading any of the files listed on the website. Making the download of your children’s books is entirely up to you. To make the process faster, you can either organize two or three friends, or get some good speed on your Internet connection by using a faster service provider like Broadband India Limited (B.I.L.).
All the free NCERT books have a one-time registration number and no personal information is required in order to access the content. There are 7 books under each of 5 subjects, which are: English Notebook, English for Class 10th (HC), English for Class 9th (HC), Biology for 9th Grade, Computer Science for 9th Grade, Physics for Class 10th (HC) and History for Class 10th (BA).
If you download more than one book, then only the books that you are downloading will be available to you. The lower grades, such as Class 4 and Class 6 are not available for free download. You need to have a valid email address in order to download the free NCERT books. If there is no message about a required registration number then it means that your credit card information is already registered on the NCERT website.
The books are generally in PDF format and can be read on computers or mobile devices such as phones, tablets and electronic readers. The books are also accessible through E-textbooks (E-Books) which are available online from our Indian Textbook site eTextbooks.in . These E-Books are also available for free download from this site.
The books that have been digitized by NCERT are the following:
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is a department in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. NCERT has three central programs to provide free educational materials: The National Centre for Education and Development, The National Textbook Program and The National Learning Materials Program/National Learning Searching Program. Addresses of these centers can be found on their own websites.
If you visit the NCERT website after registering your details on it, then you will be eligible to download around 400 high quality Indian textbooks under the ‘English Notebook’ program.
