What is the NEET UG Entrance Examination?

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a once-a-year all-India entrance examination for MBBS admission. According to the NMC Act, 2019, the NEET Undergraduate (UG) is the single entrance exam for admission to all medical colleges across India, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).

From 2012 onwards, the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) was replaced by the National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test (UG), also known as NEET-UG. NEET is a competitive entrance exam for admission to MBBS and BDS degrees that is held by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) until 2018.

National Testing Agency (NTA)

The National Testing Agency (NTA) was founded to administer entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions. It is a premier, specialist, autonomous, and self-sustaining testing organization.

From 2019, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will take over the supervision of JEE Main (I) and (II), NEET-UG, GPAT, UGC NET, CMAT, and other entrance exams from CBSE and corresponding boards.

Except in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, 15 percent of total seats in all medical and dental institutes run by the Union of India, state governments, municipal or other local authorities in India are reserved for candidates who pass this test.
